Russia has captured Evan Gershkovich, a Money Road Diary writer, on doubt of surveillance, Russia’s Government Security Administration (FSB) says. He has been put nabbed for almost two months, until May 29.

“The criminal operations of the reporter of the Moscow authority of the American paper The Money Road Diary, US resident Evan Gershkovich, born in 1991, licensed at the Russian Unfamiliar Service, associated with undercover work in light of a legitimate concern for the American government, have been smothered,” a FSB explanation said.

As per the assertion, he was confined in Yekaterinburg, on the eastern side of the Ural Mountains “while attempting to acquire restricted data” connecting with “the exercises of one of the undertakings of the Russian military-modern complex.”

The case is marked “highly classified” and Gershkovich didn’t concede responsibility, Russian state news office TASS gave an account of Thursday. Daniil Berman, the legal counselor addressing Gershkovich was not permitted to go to the Moscow hearing. “They let me know they as of now have an appointed attorney,” Berman said.

Who is Evan Gershkovich? Gershkovich’s profile page on the Money Road Diary’s site says that he covers Russia, Ukraine, and the previous Soviet Association. He recently worked for the news office Agence France-Presse, the Moscow Times, and the New York Times.

Gershkovich is situated in the Money Road Diary’s Moscow authority. He had license from the Russian Unfamiliar Service to fill in as a writer in the country, the FSB noted.

His last report from Moscow distributed on Tuesday zeroed in on the log jam of Russia’s economy after the West forced sanctions on the Kremlin following Russia’s attack of Ukraine last year.

Whenever sentenced for secret activities, Gershkovich could have to carry out upwards of 20 years in jail.
