Comic Eric Omondi was arrested on Thursday following mixed efforts between the police and the Kenya Movie Classification Board.
In keeping with the KFCB, Omondi was arrested for violating the provisions of the Movies and Stage Performs Act Cap 222 of the Legal guidelines of Kenya by producing and distributing unauthorised movies dubbed “Wife Material.”
He might be arraigned in court docket for contravening the regulation.
The Board mentioned it’ll take all potential authorized means to curb manufacturing and exhibition of unauthorised movies on any platform meant for public exhibition.
“Protection of children from exposure to harmful content remains our core mandate and any artist producing any content for public consumption must ensure that they comply with the provisions of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya,” KFCB CEO mentioned.
The Movies and Stage Performs Act Cap 222 gives that:
(1) No individual shall exhibit any movie at an exhibition to which the general public are admitted or distribute such movie until he’s registered as an exhibitor or distributor by the Board and issued with a certificates.
(2) No movie or class of movie shall be distributed, exhibited, or broadcast, both publicly or privately, until the Board has examined it and issued a certificates of approval in respect thereof. (3) Any one who displays any movie in contravention of the provisions of subsection (1) or subsection (2) shall be responsible of an offence.
