GES Gives When Recruitment Portal Will Be Opened For New Teachers

According to the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the portal for the recruitment of new teachers will be opened depending on the academic calendar of basic schools and financial clearance from the government.

The Office of Human Resource and Management Development of the Education Service (GES) disclosed this to the leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) at a meeting held on Thursday, October 7 2021.

TTAG in a statement copied to said the agency under the Ministry of Education is yet to secure financial clearance from the government which has been delayed by the recent changes in the academic calendar.

“The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured the leadership of Trainees Association is working relentlessly to secure financial clearance for the recruitment of newly qualified teachers in the country,” it said.

TTAG noted that it shall continue to engage all stakeholders involved in the recruitment adding that “We, therefore, urge all the new teachers to exercise constraint since we have more than two months before postings.”

In a related development, the National Teaching Council (NTC) after meeting with the Teachers Association on Friday, October 8, 2021, has withheld the conduct of the 2021 portfolio assessment for newly qualified teachers in the country.

Dr Christian Addai Poku, the Registrar of the Teaching Council Friday told TTAG leadership his outfit at the appropriate time after the newly trained teachers have been recruited by the GES will conduct the portfolio assement.

He stated emphatically that any newly qualified teacher who fails to participate in the impending 2021 portfolio assessment after the recruitment will not be given a teaching certificate or be licensed as a professional teacher.

Mr Christian speaking to the Trainees Association said there is a need for all new teachers to participate in the maiden edition of the portfolio assessment since it has a great impact on the professional development of a trained teacher.
